As Brazil becomes more prominent as a growing economy, people from all over the world realize that the dynamic of this huge South American country is more than Rio and Carnival. What do you really know about this growing behemoth of a country?
Brazil's history, culture and resource make for interesting discoveries for those wondering about this exotic expanse. What shines the brightest about Brazil from a perspective of an American driven to succeed is how the culture in Brazil champions the family atmosphere and disdains individual chest pounding.
Letters From Brazil Making the Adjustment Book 1 eBook Nathaniel Hines
I bought the book to prepare for our upcoming trip to Florianopolis next month. We're a couple from the Southeast Asia and it would be our first time in South America. My expectation before I bought the book was to gather information for our itinerary and possibly a list of survival phrases in Brazilian Portuguese. In general, the tone of the book is light. Not a few times that I smiled and laughed while reading it. It gave me more ideas on the places to visit especially the historical gems that were not mentioned in the blogs I have read so far.
I got confused in some parts of the book. Like when the author started language studies. He said that the school he attended was in Florianopolis but on the next page, there's a picture of the Portuguese Language Museum in Sao Paulo. I did not get the connection there because nothing was said about the language museum in Sao Paulo except for the picture and the caption. At that point, I thought the language school he attended is in Sao Paulo. I got excited in this part though because I thought the author will include some survival phrases in Brazilian Portuguese since he studied the language but did not get any aside from a few sprinkle of Brazilian words and names of places he translated to English.
The last part of the book (the final one-third of it) is no longer about Florianopolis or the author's experience in Florianopolis but rather a number of random news in Brazil. I skipped through this part as I am only interested in Florianopolis. I'll try to read this part while waiting at the airport on our way to Brazil. I think I can get more information there about Brazil's culture in general and its laws.
All in all, this book is worth the price.
